The argument for DVR
So apparently I'm one of the only people on the planet to not have DVR and you know what? I'm actually ok with that. When I tell people that I don't have DVR, I get the same reaction as if I told them I was still using a rotary phone or that I only worked in DOS. What's the big deal? What people don't understand is that I really don't need to watch more television. Take this weekend - it was cold and I was tired so I only left the house once between Friday night at 11pm and Sunday night at 6pm. What I did in-between was watch TV, a lot of it. Saturday night I watched 2 movies on DVD and then proceeded to watch "Cocktail" on TBS after that. I have two TV's in my apartment, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. There are times that they're both on and I'm home by myself. This my friends, is sad. And is there really that much good TV on to warrant setting aside large chunks of my limited free time to catch up? I don't think so. Aside from "Ugly Betty", the Monday night line-up on CBS, and the Law & Order franchise, I can't think of anything else I need or really want to see. I didn't allow myself to get caught up in "24" or "Lost" or any of those other shows people rave about and frankly, if I can't miss "America's Next Top Model" or "Top Chef" once and a while, I have bigger problems than not having DVR. So unless they make a portable one that I can take with me to the gym, I'm going to abstain for now.

Who Dat??

So I just returned from a weekend in New Orleans where I celebrated my 35th birthday. I was lucky enough to have my sister, Wendy and Maria join me for what was a great time. To add to the craziness, the NFC Divisional Playoff game between the Eagles and the Saints was being held at the Superdome on Saturday night. Whoever schedules these games was treading on thin ice with this one - who was to say if any Saints fans would be still able to stand up after drinking for 6+ hours? Thankfully, the Saints pulled through and as a result, the crowds were crazy and made for a great evening.
I had one of the best meals of my life this weekend at Nola's which is where we went for dinner for my birthday. Great food, even better service and a fun atmosphere. I recommend this to anyone who doesn't mind dropping a few bucks on a fab meal. As for the other places to eat in Nawlins, practice patience as most places are short-staffed and those who are working there are barely working.

So what have I learned in my 35 years on this planet? Apparently not much. I still drank too much on my birthday, I still let my little sister upset me when she was bratty, and I still get annoyed when I have a minor delay at the airport. What I have learned is while I'm getting older, there's a definite need to take charge of my life and to be satisfied with the way my life is going. I have a good job, great friends and all in all a pretty nice life. What I am going to do this upcoming year is get back to the gym so that I can feel better about myself and you never know what will come with that. It's been a pretty crazy year so far; I'm looking forward to it slowing down a little for the next few weeks until I'm off to Puerto Rico for 6 days.
I'll probably post something else soon, something more pithy and appropos of nothing. One great thing though: my sister's flight from New Orleans was really booked but at least she got to see Kimora Lee Simmons get thrown up on by some drunk woman. Priceless.

My First Posting
While I never in a million years thought I'd have a blog, (way too hipster high-tech) I've decided to give it a shot after reading a couple done by my friends. Not only is it something for me to do in my free time, but since my friends are scattered all over the globe these days, it allows them to tune in to find out what's happening in my life, if they so choose. I figured the worst thing that could happen is that I'm the only one who ever looks at it which would then be me either talking to myself or me finally keeping that journal I've been meaning to for the past 10 years. Either way, I hope to make it interesting and humorous so if you do stop by, give me a shout.
